The protest aimed to challenge narratives from activists on both sides, who had resorted to divisive labels such as "christo-fascists," "nazis," and "white supremacists" when referring to those supporting Alexander and Elston. During an interview with True North's Rupa Subramanya, a young Muslim woman expressed concern about the inappropriate content being taught to children at a young age. Her mother, who was also present at the protest, added, "I no longer feel comfortable sending my children to this school." Another Muslim protester shared with The Counter Signal, "We want to protect our children from harmful ideologies and unnecessary teachings. Let our kids be kids." Alexander and Elston had previously announced their intention to protest certain teachings on Ottawa's Broadview Avenue, advocating for "education over indoctrination" in publicly funded schools. Alexander explained, "Our goal is to raise awareness about the issue of certain teachings in schools. We strongly believe that constructive conversations are powerful and vital. We hope this event will stimulate productive dialogue."
