2027 Dakar Rally will not be held in Saudi Arabia: organisers

Organizers of the Dakar Rally announced on Sunday that the 2027 edition of the endurance race will be moved away from Saudi Arabia citing recent regional security developments, ending a seven-year residency in the Gulf kingdom following an escalating campaign of missile and drone attacks launched by Yemen's Houthi movement.

The 2027 Dakar Rally will be moved from Saudi Arabia "following recent developments in the region", organisers said on Sunday, after repeated attacks on the kingdom by Yemen's Houthis.

"Dakar 2027 will go ahead. The 2027 edition will take place in a different territory and will be organised by A.S.O," which runs the Dakar along with Saudi Motorsport Company (SMC), read a statement. A new location will be announced in the coming days.
