Türkiye's locally-produced unmanned ground vehicle Kapgan was transferred to a shooting range in the Black Sea province of Samsun after the completion of the work for the displayed tests.
With the work of the teams that took part in the project, Unirobotics' gun turret and Canik M2 QCB 12.7 millimeter heavy machine gun were integrated into Kapgan and firing tests were carried out over several days and nights.
Unmanned ground vehicle Kapgan, who took the field after the firing tests, revealed its driving performance.
Via this firing test, the Canik M2 QCB 12.7-millimeter heavy machine gun, which has recently entered the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, was also used for the first time with an unmanned ground vehicle.
İsmail Demir -- the head of the Presidency of Defense Industries -- stressed in his comments that Türkiye is determined to acquire worldwide success in the production of other unmanned systems too by enjoying the benefit of experience gained during the domestic development process of UAVs.
Pointing out that many Turkish defence industry companies have achieved really successful works in unmanned land vehicles, Demir said: "While some of the locally-made products are used in the service of Turkish security forces, efforts to provide some of them with new capabilities are continuing. Unmanned land vehicles continue to be equipped with their new weapons. Unmanned Ground Vehicle Kapgan, which successfully passed the first firing tests with a 7-millimeter heavy machine gun, is also looking forward to joining to other unmanned vehicles operating in the field."
KAPGAN is an Autonomous Heavy Class UGV designed to accompany troops in different missions with its high maneuverability, especially in harsh environmental conditions.
In addition to cutting-edge payload options for different functions such as the Upgradable Perimeter Surveillance System, the integrated 30 mm Gun with an effective range of 2 km provides high deterrence at low volume with its armor-piercing feature against land and air targets in the field.
KAPGAN can perform various tasks, ranging from carrying military equipment, casualty transfer, disposing bombs, to surveillance, reconnaissance and war damage assessment.
KAPGAN's 5 kilometers tactical data link, GSM and satellite communication infrastructure, 4 meters Upgradeable Peripheral Surveillance System and high-tech sensor systems enables this unique UGV to detect the environment, enabling to successful carry out day/night reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
The wired or wireless drone integrated into the vehicle can be used as a relay in cases where the range is insufficient. In addition, both reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities of the system can be increased by providing uninterrupted communication via the drone-integrated modem.
KAPGAN, the newest member of the HAVELSAN Digital Troop concept, has a swarm infrastructure that will allow it to carry out joint operations with other autonomous systems.
With its innovative solutions, smart technologies and advanced products in the fields of Simulation and Autonomous Platforms, ICT and Defense, HAVELSAN proves its grounded place among global defense companies.
