Along with the SpaceX, Blue Origin is one of the most advanced companies when it comes to space exploration in recent times.
And the company of Jeff Bezos has just announced its ambitious plans to construct a private space station into orbit.
In accordance with what the company said before, the station will be functioning mainly as the spatial base for scientists and investigators, but it is going to receive all kinds of visitors. There is a special emphasis on tourists in this regard.
The station will be given the name Orbital Reef and it is planned to become operational between 2025 and 2030.
As Blue Origin puts it, the station will be "mixed use bussiness park and a premier commercial destination in the low Earth orbit".
The platform is going to be a bit smaller than the International Space Station (ISS) and it will be able to take as much as ten people at the same time. It will also have several other areas for entertainment and for scientific and investigation ends.
"Orbital Reef will be providing the essential infrastructure needed for scaling up the economic activity and for creating opportunities for new markets to emerge in the space," the company adds.
Blue Origin wants to send the space modules with its New Glenn rocket, which itself is still within the development process.
Meanwhile, the company works with Sierra Space, which focuses on producing technology suited for space environments. This company will be responsible for developing the housing system of the Orbital Reef, which will have three floors, beds, a kitchen and a botanic garden specially designed for space.
