5.8 magnitude earthquake strikes off Indonesia’s Java Island

A strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck south of Indonesia's Java Island on Thursday, US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake took place south of Java Island at 1806GMT and originated from a depth of 58,4 kilometers (about 36.29 miles).

There were no immediate reports of damage.

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency measured the quake as 6.4 magnitude, adding that it posed no threat of a tsunami.
