China has been operating an intelligence unit in Cuba for years and upgraded it as recently as 2019, a U.S. official said Saturday.
"This is well-documented in the intelligence record," the official said in confirming China's intelligence presence, after U.S. media in recent days reported that Beijing was planning to set up a spy base on the island just off American shores.
