Texas announces first death in measles outbreak: health dept

A measles outbreak in Texas has tragically claimed its first victim, a child whose death was confirmed by the state's health department on Wednesday.

A child has died from measles in Texas, the state's health department said Wednesday, the first fatality in an outbreak that has sickened more than 130 people.

"The school-aged child who was not vaccinated was hospitalized in Lubbock last week and tested positive for measles," the department said in a news release.
