Although Israel has not signed the 1970 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it did sign and ratify the 1963 Partial Test Ban Treaty, which prohibits nuclear bomb detonations in the atmosphere or oceans. However, Israel violated this treaty by conducting nuclear tests off the coast of South Africa in the ocean. Sadly, no one has ever held Israel accountable for these violations.
On December 10, 1996, the United Nations adopted a resolution calling for the Middle East region to be free of nuclear weapons. However, Israel did not even respond to this demand.
While the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), affiliated with the UN, condemns Iran over alleged nuclear weapons it does not have, it turns a blind eye to Israel, which possesses hundreds of nuclear weapons. In short, ever since the assassination of John Kennedy, no U.S. president has tried to rein in Israel's nuclear program.
