Upon the request of the Prefectural Government, 1000 personnel from the Japan Self-Defense Forces were dispatched to the region for search and rescue operations.
It was determined that nearly 50,000 people were evacuated in the region, and 14 people were identified as waiting to be rescued from the debris at different points.
It was reported that there were power outages in 19 medical facilities throughout the prefecture, and shelves containing products in supermarkets and grocery stores were seen emptied.
