World famous Turkish folk poet Aşık Veysel commemorated at his grave

The world-famous Turkish folk poet Aşık Veysel was commemorated at his grave on the 50th anniversary of his death. A commemoration program was held at the grave of Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu, who died 50 years ago at the age of 78, in the village of Sivri Alan, in Şarkışla district, on the anniversary of his death. Sivas Deputy Governor Şakir Öner Öztürk, Şarkışla Deputy District Governor Muhammed Taha Büyükserin, relatives of Aşık Veysel, members of the association and citizens attended the program. People prayed for Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu and then visited the Aşık Veysel Museum. 'Unbelievable, very difficult life' Sivas Deputy Governor Şakir Öner Öztürk stated that Aşık Veysel lived an unbelievably difficult life and said, 'The United Nations has been included in the program of commemoration by UNESCO and our Presidency has declared 2023 as the year of Aşık Veysel.' 'Aşık Veysel was born in the village of Sivrialan, but he is a person who is beloved by the country and the whole world. He lived an unbelievably difficult life. He hasn't seen eyes since he was 7 years old. He went through a lot of suffering and despite this, he was able to see, write, leave works, and is a great poet, folk writer and thinker.' Hayriye Özer, the daughter of Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu, expressed in her short speech that she was proud to be Şatıroğlu's daughter and said 'friends remember her'. Aşık Veysel's songs and poems are known for their simplicity, sincerity, and emotional depth, often dealing with universal themes such as love, loss, nature, and social justice. His most famous work is 'Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım' ('I Am On A Long, Narrow Road'), which has become a classic Turkish folk song and has been covered by many artists. Aşık Veysel's contributions to Turkish folk music and poetry have earned him a prominent place in Turkish cultural history, and he remains a beloved and influential figure to this day.
