Turkish neighborhood at foot of mountain destroyed by two disasters

Kahramanmaraş and Hatay-centered earthquakes caused great destruction in the districts of Antakya located on plains. In Hacı Ömer Alpagot Neighborhood, which is called 'Mountain Neighborhood'', some houses were destroyed by rocks that broke off the mountain due to the earthquake. Some houses were flattened by the falling rocks, while many others were heavily damaged. Rocks that broke off the mountain fell on the roads of the neighborhood and damaged vehicles. Adnan Dağlı, one of the residents of the neighborhood, said that he has been living in the Hacı Ömer Alpagot since his childhood. Explaining that they got out of the house where they were trapped due to the falling rocks in the earthquake with their own efforts, Dağlı said they barely escaped with his wife and three children. ''Seventeen houses were destroyed in the neighborhood, four people died. Some of our neighbors are also injured and are being treated at the hospital. The rocks got into our homes. Some houses have been completely demolished and turned into rubble.' Dağlı said. Remzi Doğru, another resident, said that they experienced the disaster twice due to both the earthquake and the rocks that broke off the mountain. ''While I was running away from my house, I saw the sparks of falling rocks crashing into each other. It flashed like lightning. Earthquake and rain on one hand, falling rocks on the other... May God protect us all from such disasters again.'' he commented.
