Turkish fighter jet KAAN conducts maiden flight

The national combat aircraft 'KAAN' successfully completed its first flight today. Türkiye has now joined the countries possessing 5th generation fighter jets with KAAN. Coordinated by the Presidency of Defense Industries, one of Türkiye's most significant technology projects, KAAN, carried out its maiden flight under the Turkish Aerospace Industries. Before the flight, KAAN completed stages such as ejection seat tests, full-scale static tests, inertia and static tests of control surfaces, landing gear drop tests, avionics system tests in the system integration laboratory, and fuel tests. KAAN, finally conducted slow and fast taxi tests on the runway after the completion of these stages. KAAN restarted on the runway at Mürted Airfield in the morning and took off for the first time. Test pilot Barbaros Demirbaş was in the pilot's seat for KAAN's first flight. MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH ITS SUPERIOR CAPABILITIES With the national combat aircraft KAAN, Türkiye will be one of the five countries capable of producing aircraft at this level (5th Generation). The national fighter aircraft will provide a strategic attack capability to all air-to-air and air-to-ground targets. With its high air combat range and supersonic speed, it will make a difference with its precise and full strike features KAAN will be able to work jointly with platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles, airborne warning and control systems, and other elements planned to be procured. With next-generation weapons, KAAN will be able to conduct air-to-air combat and pr PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN HAD SIGNED ON KAAN President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli was the godfather of KAAN. Erdoğan had signed and dated the body of the National Combat Aircraft KAAN on May 1, 2023. As part of the KAAN program, the establishment of world-class test centers such as the Yıldırım Test Facility, Radar Cross Section Test Facility, and Wind Tunnel Facility is being ensured for the country. This will also increase the processing capabilities of test data.
