AFAD continues global humanitarian aid efforts

The Ministry of Interior's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has continued its humanitarian aid efforts across different regions this year, providing assistance to those in need. Between January 1 and November 30, 2024, Türkiye, through AFAD's disaster diplomacy initiatives, carried out humanitarian aid operations in several countries, including Palestine, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Somalia, Pakistan, Sudan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zambia, Burundi, the Republic of Congo, and Spain. Türkiye has consistently supported the Palestinian people under Israeli attack, sending 88,198 tons of aid to Gaza by 13 planes and 13 ships over 11 months. Additionally, $1.5 million in donations were made, including $500,000 from the Turkish Red Crescent. In Afghanistan, 8,822 tons of humanitarian aid materials were sent via 20 'goodness trains.' In response to the flooding disaster in Bangladesh, AFAD, TIKA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency), and various NGOs provided 64,992 humanitarian aid packages. Furthermore, AFAD sent 425 tons of aid to Lebanon, 50,000 aid packages to Pakistan, and 3,000 medical supply packages to Somalia. In Sudan, a total of 5,408 tons of humanitarian aid was delivered by two ships, while Bosnia and Herzegovina received 60 container homes and essential living supplies. Spain received 250 plastic waste containers with a 1,100-liter capacity each. Countries such as Zambia, Burundi, and the Republic of Congo also received food and other aid materials.
