Date on which 'potentially dangerous asteroid' could collide with Earth
The space watchdog has identified and tracked numerous potentially dangerous asteroids in an effort to understand and mitigate possible risks. The space agency recently announced the exact date of concern: May 24, 2023.
In 2016, the US agency created the Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) dedicated to supervising projects for the detection and classification of near-Earth objects that could pose a threat to the planet.

The plan includes the improvement of early detection systems, the development of diversion technologies and international collaboration in the event of an emergency.
