Turkish athletes to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics

2024 Paris Summer Olympics are beginning. The 2024 Olympics will be held between July 26 and August 11, with 10,500 athletes in total attending. Turkish athletes will represent Türkiye in shooting, athletics, road cycling, boxing, artistic gymnastics, wrestling, weightlifting, archery, taekwondo, volleyball, sailing, and swimming at the Olympics. The Olympic Torch was lit in a special ceremony on April 16, Tuesday in Olympia, Greece, where the Olympic Games originated from. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the President of the IOC Thomas Bach and Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organization Committee. The Opening Ceremony of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games will be held on July 26, Friday at 7.30 pm CEST (22.00 GMT+3) Turkish athletes have secured 102 quotas across 18 sports so far. Among the 13 athletes who won medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, boxers Busenaz Sürmeneli and Buse Naz Çakıroğlu, archer Mete Gazoz, wrestlers Taha Akgül, Rıza Kayaalp, and Yasemin Adar Yiğit, artistic gymnast Ferhat Arıcan, and taekwondo athletes Hatice Kübra İlgün and Hakan Reçber will represent Turkey in Paris 2024. However, the four athletes who won medals in karate at Tokyo 2020 will not compete in Paris 2024 as karate will not be included in the upcoming Games.
