It shortly after crashed into Lake Ontario in the dead of night in dramatic fashion.
According to witnesses, a helicopter-like object was seen traveling silently through the air before lighting up the night like a huge lightning bolt. This fireball lasted a few seconds and then disappeared.
Through videos and photos, witnesses were able to capture the moment seen when the meteor rises overhead with the bright green trail of rock rushing towards Earth and illuminating the clouds around.
The incident which was named by space authorities as 2022 WJ1, was reported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA, which declared that a probable meteorite fell from the sky east of Grimsby, Ontario, Canada.
In addition, they corroborated that upon entering our planet it broke into hundreds of pieces that fell directly into Lake Ontario, although some small pieces may have impacted on the southern shore of the lake.
Although the event caused no damage or casualties, astronomers from Western Ontario University advise residents of some areas of the Lake Ontario shoreline to "check their yards and driveways for new black rocks, which could be meteorites."
It was also reported that several researchers have already started searching for possible fragments of space pieces on the coast.
