News outlet Politico vowed Friday to "vigorously defend" its rights after US President Donald Trump threatened to ban it from the White House along with broadcasters CNN and MS Now.

"POLITICO will continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones. We will vigorously defend our First Amendment rights against any attempt to restrict them," it said in a statement.

"The claims that POLITICO received government subsidies are false and have been thoroughly debunked."
