Sudan condemns RSF attack on hospital in White Nile state

Sudan condemned an attack Thursday by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Al-Jabalain Hospital in White Nile state, describing it as a "heinous crime."

Seven people were killed, including two medical workers, and 11 others injured in the drone strike on the hospital, the only health facility in the area, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.

The network said the attack destroyed parts of the building and damaged medical equipment.

In a statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said the strike coincided with a child vaccination campaign taking place at the hospital, calling it further evidence of the deliberate targeting of civilians and health infrastructure.

The ministry also said the RSF targeted medicine warehouses and fuel depots in the city of Rabak in an attempt to disrupt essential services.

Sudan called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to condemn the attack and take urgent action to stop the violations and hold those responsible accountable.

No immediate comment was available from the RSF.

Of Sudan's 18 states, the RSF controls all five states in the western Darfur region except for parts of North Darfur, which remain under army control. The army holds most areas of the remaining 13 states across the south, north, east and center of the country, including the capital, Khartoum.

The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has killed thousands of people and displaced millions.
