European champions Spain defeated Belgium 2-1 to set up a heavyweight World Cup semi-final showdown with France on Friday.
Mikel Merino bundled in a rebound from a Pau Cubarsi strike in the 88th-minute to settle a tense battle in favour of the Spaniards at the SoFi Stadium.
Spain will now face France at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday.
