Iranian top foreign policy official seriously injured in US-Israeli attack on his home: Reports

A senior Iranian foreign policy official was seriously injured in a US-Israeli attack targeting his residence in Tehran, local media reported Wednesday.

Reports said the head of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharrazi, who previously served as foreign minister, was wounded in the strike on his home.

The reports said he was transferred to a hospital after sustaining severe injuries, while his wife was killed in the attack.

Kharrazi was one of the senior advisers to the now-late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and he continued in the role after the new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei decided to keep his father's officials in their positions without changes.

The US and Israel have maintained an air offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people to date, including the elder Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure, while disrupting global markets and aviation.
