Israel detains Jerusalem Waqf official

Israeli police on Wednesday detained an official with the Islamic Endowments Department in East Jerusalem, according to eyewitnesses.
Sheikh Najeh Bakirat, the deputy director general of the Jerusalem Waqf in the Old City of Jerusalem, was taken into Israeli custody, witnesses said.
No information is yet available about the reason for the arrest and Israeli police have yet to issue a statement.
