TİKA to Restore Historic Hünkar Mosque in Romania
TİKA will restore the 1869 Hünkar Mosque, preserving its Ottoman heritage and strengthening cultural ties between Türkiye and Romania.

The TİKA will restore the historic Hünkar Mosque, an Ottoman-era monument in Constanța, Romania, in line with its original design.
In cooperation with the Muftiate of Muslims in Romania, TİKA has undertaken the restoration of the Hünkar Mosque, which was built in 1869 by Sultan Abdulaziz.
The statement noted that the mosque will undergo a comprehensive restoration over approximately two years, aiming to preserve its original structure, sustain its historical value, and strengthen cultural ties between Türkiye and Romania.
TİKA President Abdullah Eren said, "This sacred structure entrusted by Sultan Abdulaziz is not just a restoration project, but a lasting value that carries the spirit and spiritual heritage of our ancestors into the future."
Eren added that a cooperation protocol has been signed with the Muftiate of Muslims in Romania, stating that every neglected part of the mosque will be restored faithfully to its original form.
The mosque, which was heavily damaged during World War II, was partially restored in 1956, but despite further work in the 1990s and in 2011, it has not been fully rehabilitated until now.
