Villa believed to be from the Roman period unearthed in the Ancient City of Adramytteion

Under the presidency of the Balıkesir Kuvâ-yi Milliye Museum Directorate, with the permission of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and under the scientific consultancy of Dr. Lecturer Hüseyin Murat Özge, Head of Adramytteion Research Team from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Archaeology, excavations in Ören Neighborhood uncovered one of the residential areas of the city from the Roman period. Dr. Lecturer Özgen stated that they are conducting work in two campaigns over an area of approximately 9,000 square meters in Ören Neighborhood. Özgen explained that the halls were adorned with mosaic floors, fresco-covered walls, and figurative and geometric embellishments, saying: 'Especially in the northern hall, there are 15 panels featuring different types of birds, a fish figure, and a winged horse figure, which was represented on the coins of the city of Adramytteion in the 4th century BC. It is quite significant that the winged horse, this motif, appears as an element representing the city in a Roman period structure approximately 500 years after its use on coins.' Özgen stated that cat and dog figures were also found in the mosaics, and that the names of the animals were inscribed along with them. Özgen expressed that the decorations and finds in the eastern hall indicated the structure's use in the 2nd century AD, and stated that the structure continued to be used in later periods.
