An Israeli military official says dozens of Iranian missiles have been launched at Israel, hitting several civilian areas, including a direct hit on Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, southern Israel.
Iranian media say Israel has struck an area near the heavy-water research reactor in Khondab, which is part of Iran's nuclear programme.
Explosions have also been heard in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
