Türkiye to become energy exporter with new oil reserves

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revealed the news at an opening ceremony for the Karapınar solar power plant and other recently completed projects in central Konya province, announcing that the oil discovery in Cudi and Gabar near Şırnak would yield a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day. 'The reserves are of such high quality that they have the potential to transform the country into an energy exporter,' he said. Şırnak Governor Osman Bilgin announced that during the ongoing operations in the Mount Gabar region, a significant amount of oil was discovered in the artesian well. Bilgin emphasized that with the discovery of significant oil reserves in Şırnak, the city is now emerging as an important center in the oil industry. Stating that the city has broken its shell and that there will be no shortage of employment in the next period, Bilgin noted that Şırnak will now be remembered with sports, production and employment. By the end of the year, the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) is projected to complete approximately 200 well drilling operations across nearly 20 provinces solely on land. These extensive drilling efforts will contribute to a significant increase in daily oil production, with the target set at reaching 90 thousand barrels per day. TPAO has achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching the highest daily domestic production level in the last 32 years, producing 70,076 barrels. Erdoğan also announced that the petroleum well in Gabar is named after a young music teacher, Aybüke Yalçın, who was killed in a PKK terror attack in 2017 in southeastern Türkiye. 'Our new field, the Martyr Aybüke Yalçın-1 Well, will hopefully provide more oil than produced around the whole country,' he added.

Türkiye's new oil discovery in the country's southeastern region of Gabar is estimated to increase the country's overall hydrocarbon production from 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 180,000 bpd, with an estimated yearly financial contribution of around $2.9 billion.
