Traveling beekeepers who came to Edirne couldn't achieve the expected yield this season due to extreme heat, drought, and the quick shedding of sunflower blossoms.
Beekeeper Ali İhsan Özer, who arrived in Lalapaşa's Çömlek village from Milas district of Muğla on April 25th with 300 hives, said that the yield was low this year.
Özer, who mentioned the impact of drought this season, stated, "I believe that the rains following the drought have further negatively affected the yield. Normally, we used to get a tin of honey from every hive or 2 tins from 3 hives. This year, we could only get one tin from 3-4 hives. I've been coming to this village for 13 years. I can say that this year is the worst so far."
Özer mentioned that when sunflowers bloomed, they looked beautiful, but later they shed their blossoms quickly due to rains followed by effective heat.
