In Tekirdağ, 61-year-old Pertev Aslan reinterpreted Turkish Baroque art using a three-dimensional carving technique, inspired by a historical frame design.
Fascinated by the hatayi motif, commonly used in traditional Turkish decorative arts like illumination, ceramics, textiles, and bookbinding, Aslan received six years of training in motifs from marquetry artist Enis Türk.
What started as a hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic soon became a passion, leading Aslan to open two workshops in Istanbul and Tekirdağ to display his works and introduce the art to younger generations.
Aslan's latest creation, a wooden artwork combining the Turkish Baroque style with the swan motif, took three months to complete.
The artwork, made from natural-colored, unpainted, and exotic hardwoods, will be featured in the "Aşkın On Bir Hali" themed exhibition titled "Kökü Mazide Olan Atiyiz" in Ankara.
