Fresh tea harvest begins in Türkiye’s Giresun

During the event held in the tea garden of Ören town in Eynesil district, Deputy Governor Davut Sinanoğlu extended his best wishes for a fruitful harvest season. Emphasizing the distinct aroma of the tea grown in the region, Deputy Governor Davut Sinanoğlu stated, 'The tea cultivated here has a unique quality and aroma. It holds a special place among other teas. We are aware that tea agriculture plays a significant role in employment in Giresun, providing jobs for approximately a thousand people.' Eynesil Mayor Ahmet Latif Karadeniz highlighted that tea holds great significance beyond being a herbal product for the region. He expressed, 'Tea is not merely a beverage for us; it plays a pivotal role in various aspects of our lives, from studying to getting married. It is one of the most essential factors in our daily life. Tea is more than just a product on our table; it is an integral part of who we are.' Karadeniz highlighted that Eynesil is the epicenter of tea production in Giresun, and it plays a vital role in the district's economy. He emphasized that tea makes the most significant contribution to the economic development of the region. Hüseyin Kara, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the tea production company hosting the event, shared that their facility processes approximately 15 tons of fresh tea every year. He mentioned that their operations employ 110 individuals and they contribute around 150 million to the local producers in the Eynesil and Tirebolu regions on an annual basis. Kara emphasized the significance of employment in tea agriculture to prevent migration in the region. He said: 'In the region stretching from Kesap Yolağzı to Eynesil, we have an annual production of 40 thousand tons of tea. Out of this, 15 thousand tons are processed by our company, Amber Tea, 10 thousand tons by ÇAYKUR, and the remaining quantity is processed by 7-8 special tea factories. The tea grown in our region has a distinct flavor. Our tea plants are 40 years younger compared to those in Rize, and we benefit from higher sun exposure.' During the event, accompanied by the traditional sounds of kemençe and the lively dance of horon, the tea producers entered the garden and began the process of gathering tea leaves. The joyful atmosphere and cultural music added a vibrant touch to the tea harvest.
