CHP municipality sends eviction notice to quake victims

The disaster of the century claimed the lives of over 50,000 individuals, leaving millions without a place to call home. In a remarkable show of solidarity, a helping hand extended from all corners of Türkiye to support those who were left homeless. The Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality took proactive measures by providing facilities within the province to accommodate some of the affected individuals. A temporary agreement was reached to accommodate the earthquake victims in hotels until August 13, 2023, ensuring their shelter and support during the recovery process. However, following the elections, the CHP Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality sent a notification to the disaster victims. The earthquake survivors faced a challenging situation as they were instructed to vacate the hotels until May 21, intensifying their sense of desperation. In the wake of the disheartening news, the Tekirdağ Süleymanpaşa District Municipality provided solace to the earthquake victims who were left pondering their next steps. Their compassionate actions served as a source of comfort and reassurance during this difficult time. Süleymanpaşa Mayor Cüneyt Yüksel addressed the situation and confirmed that a notification had been issued on Sunday regarding the eviction of temporary accommodations. Recognizing the grievances faced by the victims, Yüksel assured them, saying, '' We are committed to finding suitable alternative accommodations for you, whether it be in the locations of your preference or with the hotels where you are currently staying. We will establish new agreements to ensure your well-being.' Regarding the CHP Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality's decision to end the accommodation of quake victims, Tekirdağ Governor Aziz Yıldırım said: ''All earthquake victims in our province are under the guarantee of our state. In that sense, no one should have the slightest concern.'' ''Our state stands firmly by the side of our earthquake victims, extending support through all its institutions. They are welcome to stay for as long as they need, as our state provides ample resources and opportunities for their well-being.'' Yıldırım added.
