3.5 Million Cubic Meters of Sediment Cleaned from Türkiye,Ankara's Mogan Lake

Ankara received some uplifting news. Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Mehmet Özhaseki, announced that 3.5 million cubic meters of sediment at the bottom of the splendid Mogan Lake in Ankara have been cleaned. The Mogan Lake Bottom Sediment Cleaning Project was initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in 2016. This project resulted in the removal of 3.5 million cubic meters of sediment from Mogan Lake.Through the two-phase sediment cleaning efforts, the live flora of the lake was preserved, and environmental arrangements were made around the lake. After the cleaning, Mogan Lake returned to its former beauty and became an area where both aquatic life and birds thrive, and residents enjoy spending time, including children's play areas, resting spots, walking and cycling paths. Minister Mehmet Özhaseki shared on his social media account: 'With the joint effort of our Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change and our Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, we have removed 3.5 million cubic meters of sediment through the Mogan Lake Bottom Sediment Cleaning Project that we initiated in 2016. With this project, Mogan Lake has regained its former beauty and continues to be a habitat for aquatic life and birds, as well as becoming a social space for our citizens to enjoy, with children's play areas, rest spots, walking and cycling paths that we've established around it.' The studies conducted within the scope of the project 'Paleoclimatological and Origin Examination of Mogan and Eymir Lakes,' supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), revealed that the history of these two important lakes in Ankara dates back 8,000 years.
