In a meeting with his employees, Mark Zuckerberg spoke about the Apple Vision Pro, the new mixed reality glasses that the company presented a few days ago.
The device will arrive in 2024 at $3,499, a price seven times higher than the Quest 3, the glasses recently confirmed by Meta.
"I think your announcement really shows the difference in values and vision that our companies bring to this in a way that I think is really important. We innovate to make sure that our products are as accessible and affordable for everyone as possible," said the CEO, in statements published by The Verge, a medium that was present at the meeting.
What makes the difference between the two companies is that Quest is designed for "people to interact in new ways and feel closer" while "being active and doing things."
Whereas, according to him, the new Apple device showed lonely, remote and static users, something that is totally far from what they want in Meta.
"Their presentations were of a person sitting alone on a sofa. That might be the vision of the future of computing, but it's not the one I want," Zuckerberg said.
Apple knows that the Vision Pro is not for everyone
When the company released its first iPhone in 2009, it was priced at $499 for the 4GB version and $599 for the 8GB version, a value that the market was not used to at that time and the phones that set the trend, such as BlackBerry, had a cost of 200 dollars.
And with the Vision Pro, the company knows that by charging a high price point, not everyone is going to be able to afford the glasses, but that's how high-quality innovation must work like this.
"I think people will make one choice or another depending on their financial situation and else. The engineering and depth of it that goes into the glasses are incredible. You have more than a 4K experience in each eye. Of course, this experience is not free. It costs money to make something like that, but I think it's still good value for money," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, in an interview with Good Morning America.
