Jimmy Kimmel's show was indefinitely pulled off the air by ABC's owner, Walt Disney Company, following his comments after the killing of Charlie Kirk.
The star's break from the screen was brief, and his talk show returned recently with an episode broadcast in U.S. time. When the show was taken off air, viewers who staged a protest in front of ABC studios welcomed Jimmy Kimmel back with joy, and large crowds formed in front of the channel. 57-year-old Kimmel was surrounded by security officers as he got out of his car.
The company made a statement saying, "We decided to pause the production of our series last Wednesday to prevent further escalation of tension at a sensitive time for our country."
The channel later made a second statement, "We took this decision because we thought some comments were untimely and therefore insensitive. We spent the last few days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after these talks, we decided to bring the show back."
Kimmel, referring to his words about Kirk, said, "I want to clarify something because this is important to me as a person, and that is that it was not my intention to trivialize the murder of a young man. I posted a message on Instagram on the day he was killed, conveying my love to his family and expressing my sympathy. I truly meant it and I still do,"
Summarized the events by saying, "It was also not my intention to blame a specific group for the actions of a clearly troubled individual. Actually, that was the exact opposite point I was trying to emphasize."
