In the Middle Ages, feudal lords flaunted their power thanks to their castles. But now, tens of centuries later, it is still possible to occupy one of these fortresses, but at a more affordable price.
The portal specialized in housing Idealista has published a report where it collects some examples of castles in Spain that are for sale and, in some cases, for less than a flat in a big city.
In the Tarragona town of Vallfogona de Riucorb there is a castle from the 11th century, although it does not appear documented until the 12th century. In the year 1191 it became the property of the Order of the Knights Templar until the dissolution of the order in the year 1312. Later, it belonged to the Knights Hospitallers, who maintained their possession until the 19th century.
It has an area of 600 square meters and a plot of 1,200 square meters. It can be purchased for a price of 650,000 euros.
In the region of Pallars Jussá, province of Lleida, we find the Torre Soldevilla, which was part of the old castle of Talarn, built between the 11th and 12th centuries.
With a price of 450,000 euros, it offers five floors and almost 640 square meters of surface area, five bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a 150 m2 cellar. On the lower floors, the walls of the tower reach 2.5 meters thick.
In Sigüenza (Guadalajara) we find a castle from the 14th century, with a constructed area of 1,500 square meters on a plot of 4,000. The price it has is 2 million euros.
Between La Garrotxa and La Selva, 25 minutes from Olot and Girona, there is a 10th-century castle, which was renovated in the 15th and 19th centuries. It has a constructed area of 747 m2 on a 10,000 m2 plot.
The attached buildings were added to the property in the 16th and 19th centuries. It has a price of 1.15 million euros.
