Thousands of Istanbulites flock to Hagia Sophia and Eyüp Sultan Mosque to perform Eid prayer

Thousands of Turkish citizens gathered at Hagia Sophia and Eyüp Sultan Mosque in Istanbul to observe the Eid prayer. The Hagia Sophia Mosque accommodated a significant number of people, with some congregants occupying the courtyard due to limited space inside. The Istabulites began arriving at the mosque early in the morning in anticipation of the prayer. As the mosque filled up before prayer time, those unable to find space inside positioned themselves in the courtyard, bringing their prayer mats. Uğur Ceritli, who came to pray, expressed their appreciation for the atmosphere and the historical significance of Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet mosques. Worshippers wished they had arrived earlier and extended well wishes to those partaking in the prayer. Mehmet Binici shared their gratitude for a pleasant holiday season and expressed prayers for those affected by the recent earthquake. Binici wished for peace and tranquillity worldwide. Eyüp Sultan Mosque also attracted a large crowd of citizens seeking to perform the Eid prayer. Despite arriving early, many individuals were unable to find space inside the mosque and resorted to praying on the rugs and mats placed in the courtyard. Similarly, Büyük Çamlıca Mosque in Üsküdar welcomed thousands of people who came early in the morning to celebrate Eid al-Adha. The mosque quickly filled up, with the top floor designated for women. The main street where Büyük Çamlıca Mosque is located experienced heavy traffic due to the influx of people. Following the Eid prayer, congregants exchanged greetings and celebrated together both inside the mosque and in the courtyard. The digital ridge of the mosque displayed the message 'Eid Mubarak' before the prayer, adding to the festive ambience.
