US House Speaker Mike Johnson swore in Rep. Christian Menefee into the lower chamber of Congress on Monday.
Menefee, a Democrat from Texas, won the seat in a special election Saturday, narrowing Republicans' already-slim majority in the House of Representatives.
His swearing-in brought the total number of voting members in the House to 432, with 218 Republicans, 214 Democrats and three vacancies.
Menefee replaced Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died in March 2025 at the age of 70.
