Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on Wednesday spoke over the phone and discussed recent developments in the Middle East, Iran's Foreign Ministry said.
Araghchi said that the US has been using its bases and capabilities in the region against Iran, adding that Tehran is carrying out its "defensive operations" within the framework of its right to self-defense, a ministry statement said.
Araghchi said that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to the ships of parties involved in attacks against Iran.
Trung, for his part, expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in Iran and voiced concern over the developments in the region.
He underlined the importance of respecting countries' sovereignty and adhering to international law.
The Vietnamese foreign minister further expressed hope that peace and stability would be restored in the region as soon as possible.
