Drone hits US diplomatic facility in Baghdad amid US-Israeli war with Iran

A drone strike hit a major US diplomatic facility in Iraq on Tuesday in what is believed to be a retaliatory attack by pro-Iran militias amid the escalating US-Israeli war on Iran, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Citing a security official and an internal US government alert it reviewed, the newspaper said the attack hit the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, a large logistical hub for American diplomats located near Iraqi military bases and Baghdad International Airport.

Six drones were launched toward the compound, with five intercepted by air defenses while one struck the US facility, the official reportedly said.

No casualties were immediately reported, but the alert ordered personnel at the facility to "duck and cover" as officials assessed the damage.

The incident comes after repeated drone attacks targeting the US Victoria military base at Baghdad International Airport. Security checkpoints have been set up at multiple locations across the capital following the incidents.

Regional escalation has intensified since the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, reportedly killing more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls and senior military officials.

Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli cities and locations hosting US military assets across the region.
