"July 15, 2016 marked one of the most critical turning points in Türkiye’s history — a tough test state and nation overcame with pride," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed in his speech on Tuesday while speaking at the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day commemoration event.

Erdoğan laid out the following statements in his address:
"July 15, 2016 marked one of the most critical turning points in Türkiye's history — a tough test state and nation overcame with pride. On night of July 15, 2016 coup attempt, truth that Türkiye is greater than just Türkiye was once again clearly, very strongly understood."
The defeated coup attempt, in which 252 people were killed and 2,734 were wounded, was plotted and carried out by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).
