The death toll from Hurricane Otis, which hit the coastal city of Acapulco in southern Mexico, has risen to 48, authorities said.

Evelyn Salgado, the Guerrero state governor, said that 36 individuals were still missing.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador emphasized that search and rescue operations are ongoing, adding that he plans to visit the region.

Expressing commitment to rebuilding the hurricane-stricken city of Acapulco, he said that they are in close contact with local authorities.

On Oct. 26, Hurricane Otis claimed the lives of 39 people in Mexico and damaged thousands of homes and left many without electricity.

The government had deployed approximately 17,000 soldiers and police officers to respond to looting incidents in the aftermath of Hurricane Otis.
