A 5.8 magnitude earthquake jolted Indonesia's northern Sumatra early Sunday, according to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.
The quake, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), occurred at 3.06 am (2006GMT Saturday) in a seismically active area known for tectonic plate movements.
The epicenter was determined to be at 1.29 degrees north latitude and 97.21 degrees east longitude.
No damage to life or infrastructure was reported.
