20th year ago today, the then-president of the United States George Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq, claiming the country's President Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
The main reasons for the war were shown as Hussein's possession of weapons of mass destruction and being a threat to the US, alongside the violent government in the country.
Evidence for the mass destruction weapons could not be found, which further raised questions on the validity of the invasion.
Hussein was then captured in the same year by the US forces and then executed by an Iraqi court by hanging in 2006.
Iraq's invasion by the United States of America has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths according to several investigations, causing a huge tragedy.
