During the reign of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, in 1471, Alanya was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire, and between the 13th and 18th centuries it prospered as an important port for maritime trading with Egypt, Syria and Cyprus.

In 1935, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited the city and renamed it as "Alanya".
