1,700-year-old Roman bath unearthed in field in Elazığ

A structure detected in a field in Türkiye's Elazığ using ground-penetrating radar has been identified, through ongoing archaeological excavations, as a Roman bath believed to have belonged to a high-ranking class of the period.

In an archaeological excavation carried out in another field located 70 meters south of the historic mosaic previously found in Salkaya village—which featured colorful and patterned depictions of animal figures—a 75-square-meter bathhouse from the Late Roman Period has been unearthed.

The bath includes underfloor heating, cold, warm, and hot sections, steam rooms, pools, as well as clean and waste water channels.
