The zookeeper speculated that Ponzu may have become bored with its partner Maja and desired solitude. However, due to the height at which Ponzu had climbed, the zookeeper and staff were unable to reach him to help him down.
As a result, the fire brigade was called to intervene and assist in lowering Ponzu from the tree.
This is not the first time Ponzu has escaped from the cage shared with Maja. The most recent escape prior to this incident occurred in February.
Warsaw Zoo officials explained to the Polish media that tensions between male and female red pandas sharing the same enclosure can sometimes prompt males to seek solitude.
