Within the scope of the biennial "flower carpet" event in Brussels, an approximately 1300 square meter flower carpet was laid in the Grand Place, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Belgian and Japanese volunteers, who gathered in the square in the early morning, completed the carpet with approximately 500,000 flowers around 2:00 PM local time.
This year, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Japan, the carpet, prepared with the theme of "Japan," depicted the world-famous work "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by the country's renowned artist Katsushika Hokusai.
