Germany's Economy Minister Brigitte Zypries on Friday blasted US President Donald Trump's decision to slap punitive tariffs on steel and aluminium imports as pure "protectionism" and an affront to allies.
"It is protectionism which offends close partners like the EU and Germany and which limits free trade," said Zypries in a statement, adding that Germany, in consultation with the EU, would deliver a "clear answer".
