Kazakhstan's Adilet party won 71.17% of the vote in the country's first election to its new one-chamber parliament, according to preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission on Monday.
Adilet, the political successor to the former ruling Amanat party, secured a wide lead over the six other parties contesting the Aug. 23 election, held under Kazakhstan's new constitutional system.
The Aul party received 6.26% of the vote, followed by Respublica with 5.56% and Ak Zhol with 5.21%.
The Nationwide Social Democratic Party received 5.11%, while the People's Party of Kazakhstan and the Green Party Baytak received 3.11% and 1.07%, respectively.
A total of 2.51% of voters selected the "against all" option.
The Central Election Commission said 9,351,539 citizens took part in the election, putting preliminary turnout at 74.08%.
The election was the first for Kazakhstan's new 145-member Kurultai, which replaced the former bicameral parliament following the adoption of a new constitution earlier this year.
All seats were contested through party lists, with parties required to secure more than 5% of the vote to enter the legislature.
During the election campaign, Adilet outlined state reform, economic development, digitalization, education, regional development and social protection as its priorities.
