Iran warns that ships violating Hormuz transit rules risk detention, seizure
Iranian authorities warned on Sunday that foreign commercial vessels failing to comply with national maritime transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz risk facing heavy fines, impoundment, or direct seizure upon subsequent voyages through the waterway.

Iran warned Sunday that vessels failing to comply with its transit rules in the Strait of Hormuz could face fines, detention or seizure during subsequent crossings.
The warning was issued by Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority in a statement on the US social media platform X.
The authority urged companies transporting cargo to or from the Gulf to check an updated list of vessels accused of violations before chartering any ship.
It said vessels cooperating with ships already on the list would also be added from Sunday, including those involved in ship-to-ship cargo transfers, transshipment and similar operations.
Vessels seeking removal from the list must submit a formal request explaining the grounds for doing so, the authority added.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, ending hostilities that began in February, and agreed to pursue negotiations toward a final agreement.
Talks have since stalled amid disputes over implementation of the memorandum and arrangements for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and gas exports.
