Drone crashes near home in Romania, no explosives found: Defense Ministry

A drone crashed into a tree near a home in Romania's Ciuslea village on Monday, with authorities finding no explosives on the aircraft, the Defense Ministry said.

Residents near the site were evacuated and the area was isolated until authorities completed their checks, Garoafa commune Mayor Laurentiu Diaconu told the AGERPRES news agency.

Diaconu said the drone crashed in the morning but was not noticed until a few hours later, when it was found in a walnut tree near a house.

The Defense Ministry said in a written statement that its radar surveillance systems had detected intermittent signals in Moldova's airspace in the Cahul area.

"The Ministry of National Defence was informed about the discovery of drone components in the yard of a property in Ciuslea, Vrancea County," the ministry said in a later statement.

"Following checks, it was determined that the drone did not carry an explosive payload," it added.

The ministry said initial findings suggested the components most likely came from the drone that entered Romanian airspace Monday morning from the direction of Moldova.
