Gunmen open fire on police station in Brussels, no injuries reported

Two masked men opened fire on a police station in Brussels' Anderlecht district late Friday, with at least 12 bullet holes found in the building's facade, Belgian news outlet Nieuwsblad reported.

The two men arrived at the police station on Demosthenestraat at around 11.30 pm local time (2130 GMT), according to surveillance footage.

One of the men fired multiple shots at the building with what appeared to be an AK-47-style weapon, while the other filmed the attack.

The Brussels South police zone said officers were alerted at around 11.40 pm local time (2140 GMT) that shots had been fired at the police station.

"The impact on the building was visible," the police zone said.

The entrance and glass doors of the station were particularly targeted.

The suspects, who were dressed in black and wearing masks, fled the scene on a shared electric scooter.

No one was injured in the attack.

The police station was closed to the public at the time, but neighborhood officers were inside.

An investigation was opened, with the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office appointing a ballistics expert and the Federal Judicial Police laboratory examining the scene, the Brussels South police zone said.
